Since his blockbuster transfer to Manchester City, Erling Haaland has set the Premier League ablaze, scoring a stunning 25 goals in just 19 matches. But the Norwegian phenom admits even he has been surprised by aspects of English football since arriving from the Bundesliga.
In a recent interview, Haaland was asked what has shocked him most about playing in the cutthroat EPL. “The quality of the teams, for sure,” he responded. “It may sound simple, but the level here is so high across every single club.”
Haaland went on to explain how the depth of quality in England has exceeded his lofty expectations. “In Germany, there were a few teams that weren’t at the same level. But here, every game is extremely tough.”
Despite his own eye-popping stats, Haaland says no match is easy given the physicality and intensity of Premier League sides. “You have to fight hard every time for the three points. That intensity has surprised me.”
However, Erling says facing world-class competition week in, week out will only accelerate his development. “Playing these great teams and players will make me a much better footballer,” he added.
Just months into his Premier League career, Haaland is better than advertised. Yet even this unstoppable goal machine has been shocked by just how fierce and unrelenting English football can be. If this is Haaland surprised, imagine what he’ll do once he’s fully adapted.
