Despite being a skilled player herself, Maribel sacrificed her own tennis ambitions to support Rafa. From the time they were children, she embraced the duty of being Rafa’s “first coach”, hitting countless balls to him daily to hone his craft.

As teens training at an academy, Maribel moved away from home to accompany Rafa, becoming his second mother. “We have been together through every moment,” Rafa says. Even now, Maribel remains a guiding voice Rafa trusts completely.

At tournaments, Maribel is Rafa’s loudest cheerleader, passionately celebrating his victories. Her unwavering belief in him gives Rafa confidence. “Knowing she is there makes me feel invincible,” he admits.

While Rafa is the superstar, he describes Maribel as his rock, keeping him grounded. Her sensibility and work ethic motivate him. “My sister is my inspiration. Her example drives me,” Rafa shares.

Now both in their 30s, the bond between the Nadal siblings remains rock-solid. Maribel frequently visits Rafa and his new baby to help out and spend quality time together.

While Rafa revels in being an uncle to Maribel’s two children, he’s overjoyed his own son will have Maribel as an aunt. “I hope my sister will be just as special to my kids,” says Rafa.

At the end of the day, beyond all the tennis triumphs, Maribel is still Rafa’s number one supporter. Their heartwarming relationship shows that sometimes the strongest encouragement comes from family.
