Last week, Scottie Scheffler missed his chance at a three-peat victory at the WM Phoenix Open by a few strokes. This week, World No. 1 is chasing the birdies at the Genesis Invitational; however, he’s coming up short. And the reason behind both is just one: Sheffler’s struggles.
The issue was highlighted many months ago at the 2023 British Open. But Scheffler felt that a few bad strokes were taken out of context. And then, when he won the Hero World Challenge in December, fans assumed his putting woes had ended.
However, at Riviera CC, the one-time major winner’s short game had become a point of discussion once again!
A new week brought much of the news we were waiting for. From how well Tiger Woods played to who was leading the scoreboard, there was curiosity about everything. But what people might not have expected was that Scottie Scheffler, who is usually placid on the course, lost control of his anger.
The world number one started round one with a 40-foot eagle on hole one. However, for the next 10 holes, Scheffler missed six birdies and made a bogey. Moreover, at the back nine par-4 sixteenth hole, Scheffler missed a birdie putt from under 10 feet and was so enraged by his missed attempts that he was on the verge of breaking his putter.
The glimpse of the same was shared by CBS reporter Kyle Porter on X, captioned “Evergreen” behaviors from Scheffler.
