Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas used to be friendly growing up playing tennis before their relationship soured following a heated Wimbledon match in 2022. Things got uglier during a fourth-set thriller clash when the Australian player constantly protested to the chair umpire as it irked his Greek opponent. Soon after, an irate Tsitsipas, who dropped a crucial set, smacked a ball into the crowd, which nearly hit a spectator at Court 1.
Kyrgios, on the other hand, demanded that his opponent be defaulted for his behavior, as the match was littered with controversy and ill will. Now, two years after that heated feud, the ‘bad boy of tennis’ is trying hard to keep differences aside with his Greek colleague. The Aussie recently defended Tsitsipas while he was being brutally trolled by a fan on social media.
“He is a terrific player”- Nick Kyrgios comes to Stefanos Tsitsipas’ defense
In Kyrgios’ latest Instagram live session, a fan tried to brutally mock Tsitsipas by asking the Australian tennis player, “When are going to smack Sh*tsipas?” In his candid response, Kyrgios said, “His name is Stefanos Tsitsipas, and he is a terrific player.”
