Matteo Berrettini says constant injury setback are destroying his body and head as 2024 season aim set

Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini opened up about the crushing mental and physical toll that injuries have taken on him lately. After yet another early exit from the Australian Open due to fitness issues, Berrettini confessed the constant setbacks are negatively affecting him.

“The injuries are destroying me both mentally and physically,” Berrettini said dejectedly. He revealed the parade of strains, tears, and surgeries make it impossible to build any momentum, which is mentally demoralizing.

Berrettini also described the grueling efforts to rehab and get back to top shape, only to reinjure himself shortly after. “My body feels broken. I keep pushing but can’t catch a break,” he lamented.

However, Berrettini still clings to the hope that he can regain full health long-term. He has now set his sights on the 2024 season as the target to come back fully fit.

“I will use this year to heal my body completely even if it means sitting out tournaments,” Berrettini stated. “My goal is to be ready to play my best tennis again starting in 2024.”

While clearly disheartened, Berrettini’s focus on starting fresh in 2024 shows his fighting spirit remains intact. Tennis fans undoubtedly sympathize with his plight and ache to see him restore his world-beating form.

If anyone has the fortitude to battle back from adversity, it’s the warrior Berrettini. Once healed, his motivation will be stronger than ever to claim the titles his talent deserves.
