Tennis fans, say hello to the next big thing from the Philippines – 17-year-old phenom Alex Eala. This rising star is already making waves and has the potential to be one of the greats.

Eala burst onto the scene in 2020 by winning the Australian Open junior girls’ singles title at just 15 years old. Her fearless power game and steely composure turned heads and garnered comparisons to legends like Serena Williams.

But Eala’s ascent shouldn’t come as a surprise. She’s following directly in the footsteps of her older brother, Miko. He was the first Filipino to win a junior grand slam singles title back in 2018 with his triumph at the US Open.

It seems athletic greatness runs in the Eala bloodline. Their parents were both accomplished athletes themselves. And in Alex and Miko, they’ve raised two driven, mentally tough dynamos.

“It was the best feeling to watch my brother win his juniors grand slam and see the Philippine flag raised for the first time,” Eala says. “Now I want to experience that joy for myself on the pro tour.”

With her big lefty serve and blistering groundstrokes, Eala projects as a future top player. She’s already reached a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world juniors. The transition to the WTA tour will be challenging, but this fearless Filipino has the weapons and mentality to pull it off.
