Fritz Responds After Facing Backlash For Liking Controversial Social Media Post

Taylor Fritz has insisted he only accidentally liked a controversial tweet in relation to LGBTQ+ pride month.

Fritz has allowed his tennis to do the talking in recent years. He has made major improvements, and that is why he is the current American No. 1 and sits inside the Top 10 in the rankings.

Last week, the 26-year-old added another ATP title to his tally. He defeated Tommy Paul in the final at Delray Beach, despite Fritz and Paul facing unusual scheduling for the final.

The American will now turn his attention to the Indian Wells Open, which is a tournament that he won in 2022. Fritz joins players like Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka for the Eisenhower Cup in Indian Wells.

However, in recent days, Fritz has been generating unwanted attention off-court on social media. This is due to a tweet that he liked, which has caused division among fans online.

The MMA fighter Sean Strickland put out a tweet on the platform X mocking LGBTQ+ Pride Month. He said that the first US president, George Washington, would not be impressed if he understood what the event was for.

An account named Nima Yamini agreed with the tweet and replied by stating that the US “founding fathers would hit the reset button” if they saw events like LGBTQ+ pride month being a reality. This was the tweet Fritz liked.

That was then brought to Fritz’s attention, and he put out a tweet seeking to clarify what had happened, which can be seen below. The American No. 1 insisted the like was done accidentally while scrolling Strickland’s page because he had been in the news.
