Andy Murray issues ‘huge apology’ to his wife ‘for whatever I was doing to her mouth’

An 18-year-old video of Andy Murray’s first-ever ATP Tour singles title resurfaced this week, leading to the tennis great offering his now wife Kim “huge apologies” for his awkward kissing technique back in the day.

Murray, aged just 18 at the time, won his maiden ATP trophy in February 2006 as he defeated Lleyton Hewitt 2–6, 6–1, 7–6 (7–3) in the final of the SAP Open in San Jose in the United States.

After finishing the match with a double-handed cross-court winner, Murray threw his hands in the air before doing the customary handshake with his opponent.

His then girlfriend Kim Sears applauded wildly in his player’s box and Muray then made his way over to her where they shared a quick peck, a hug and then had another go at a longer awkward kiss.

After Tennis TV shared the footage of his title and the kiss on social media, Murray piped up with a classic comment on his Instagram Story.

“Huge apologies to my now wife for whatever I was doing to her mouth there,” he wrote. “If I was on the receiving end of that I would have dumped me on the spot!”

Of course tennis fans were also going to have their say on that moment with one writing “Man kept kissing through her lil speech there😂” and another adding “Forget ATP, that kiss was real struggle though 🤭😂”

Murray and Sears started dating a few months before that infamous 2006 kiss and they announced their engagement in November 2014 before tying the know on April 11, 2015 at Dunblane Cathedral in Scotland.

The couple has four children – three daughters named Sophia, Edie and Lola and son named Teddie.

Murray, of course, went on to become one of the all-time tennis greats after that SAP Open event as he climbed to No 1 in the ATP Rankings 10 years later in an era that had Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at their peak.
