Griekspoor Loses His Cool: Racket Smashed 8 Times in Zverev Clash!

Tallon Griekspoor let out his frustration after losing the first set against Alexander Zverev on Sunday night.

Griekspoor lost his cool at Indian Wells

Griekspoor narrowly lost in a tiebreak to Zverev and was absolutely fuming… and his racket bore the brunt of his anger.

The world number 27 smashed his racket eight times on the ground at Indian Wells, shattering it to pieces.

Griekspoor’s frustration came over the way he dropped that first set.

All he had to do was hold his serve to go 1-0 up, but was broken by Zverev.

The German went on to win the tiebreak and snatch away that first set.

“He is absolutely fuming he has lost that first set,” Sky Sports’ commentator said.

Griekspoor tossed the smashed racket over to his bags as he sat down to try and compose himself for the second set.

He was given a warning by the umpire for racket abuse.

According to the rules: “Players shall not violently, dangerously or with anger hit, kick or throw a racquet or other equipment within the precincts of the tournament site.

“For purposes of this rule, abuse of racquets or equipment is defined as intentionally, dangerously and violently destroying or damaging racquets or equipment or intentionally and violently hitting the net, court, umpire’s chair or other fixture during a match out of anger or frustration.”

Griekspoor could now face a hefty fine as a result.

Things did not get better in the second set as he lost that as well, with Zverev claiming the straight sets victory 7-6(7), 6-3.

Zverev progressed to the last 16 where he will play Alex de Minaur.
