Olympia Ohanian’s Famous Mom: A Look at Serena Williams’ Motherhood Journey

Though she’s one of the greatest athletes of all time, Serena Williams’ most cherished role is that of mom to her adored 5-year-old daughter, Olympia.

Williams gave birth to Olympia in September 2017, a year after announcing her surprising pregnancy shortly before winning the Australian Open. Serena’s journey into motherhood was not without major challenges – she endured life-threatening complications during an emergency C-section delivery.

But from the moment Olympia arrived, Williams found boundless love and joy as a first-time mom. “No matter what, I’ve got this strength that no one knew I had,” she has said of the power her daughter gives her.

Williams took about a year away from tennis after Olympia’s birth to recover and focus on parenting. She admits the transition from globe-trotting superstar to hands-on mom initially felt like “a huge hole” in her life.

Since returning to competition, Serena has openly gushed about the priceless moments she shares with her daughter – from the earliest milestones like first steps to their favorite tradition of nightly baths together. She hopes her success has inspired Olympia to dream big.

“I tell her, ‘You’re so lucky I had you, because I was really a jerk until I had you,'” Williams has joked.

While her comeback to the tour hasn’t resulted in the record-breaking Grand Slam win she craves, Serena is at peace with her priorities now. In Olympia, the 23-time major champion has found an unmatched source of strength, perspective, and unconditional love.
