Tennis coach Eric Riley believes that America’s young sensation Ben Shelton has a chance to become the best player in the world.
The 21-year-old is often regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing in the circuit alongside Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
“Shelton has done a great job and he bounced back immediately and got an ATP tournament in Japan,” he said. “That shows you right there he’s not home counting money, he’s not home basking in the sun. He won five matches in a Major and went and won a tournament after that.
“He’s got a chance to be the best player in the world because he is ready to go to work. Most of these guys, they get a good result, on the men’s or women’s side, they become fat cats.”
He then participated in the Dallas Open where his journey came to an end in the semifinal as he lost to fellow American Tommy Paul with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
