British tennis icon Tim Henman has urged his former teammate Andy Murray not to retire from the sport just yet. In an exclusive interview, Henman implored the veteran Scot to continue his remarkable comeback from career-threatening hip surgery.
Though Murray contemplated retirement several times over the past few years, Henman believes his contemporary still has more memorable moments left in him.
“Seeing Andy back healthy and playing competitive tennis has been truly inspirational,” Henman said. “With his tennis IQ, resilience and fighting spirit still intact, I think he can still achieve more great things. We all want to see Andy play at Wimbledon again.”
Wimbledon holds a special place in Murray’s heart, having ended the famous 77-year British drought at the tournament in 2013. He also won the title again in 2016 to the delight of the home fans.
Despite not replicating that Wimbledon success in recent years, Murray showed he still has the game and grit to challenge the world’s best players. At age 35, he defeated world No. 14 Matteo Berrettini en route to a hard-fought quarter-final run at the Stuttgart Open last June.
“His passion and dedication to the sport is incredible,” Henman remarked. “I know his body has taken a beating, but I’m urging him to push just a little further. Andy at Wimbledon one last time would be a dream for every British tennis fan out there.”
As Murray ponders his future, an entire nation hopes this is not the last chapter of an illustrious career for one of Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen.
