Eighteen-year-old Filipina tennis star Alex Eala set her new career high for the World Tennis Association (WTA) rankings in both singles and doubles as a professional.
Eala jumped three spots to no. 184 in women’s singles after reaching the quarterfinals of the ITF W50 in Pune, India. She fell to tournament top seed and world number 142 Darja Semenistaja of Latvia, 6-7, 0-6.
The Filipina also participated in the Australian Open but suffered an early qualifying round one exit to 18th seed Rebecca Peterson of Sweden.
As for doubles, Eala jumped 63 spots and now ranks 302nd as of January 29.
Her surge came after the doubles victory in the W50 Pune competition with her singles tormentor, Darja Semenistaja.
The duo beat the pair of Hungary’s Fanny Stollar and Great Britain’s Naiktha Bains, 7-6(8), 6-3, last Saturday.
Eala will be flying to the United Arab Emirates for the WTA Mubudala Abu Dhabi Open which will take place from February 3 to 11.
She will first go head-to-head with Kazakhstan’s Zhibek Kulambayeva in the tourney.
